Mixed oral aerobic and anaerobic flora

Clindamycin 30 mg/kg/day PO/IV div q8h (max 600mg/dose)

Consult Dentistry. May require extraction for primary teeth or a root canal for permanent teeth.

 

Typically presents with pain of the affected tooth/gum, erythema or edema of the gum, adjacent jaw, or face, tender or loose tooth, hot/cold food sensitivity, fever. Dental caries serve as a site of initial insult, and as a source for spread of deeper infection.
